Claims for cost overruns due to extended construction timelines

Delays in project execution inevitably lead to a range of additional costs (overruns) that must be quantified.

These overruns may vary in nature. Some are due to increased, direct and indirect, costs associated with delays in construction progress.

Others arise from additional general expenses, resulting from contractor’s inability to certify the amounts included in their original bid. Lastly, there are overruns linked to temporary, (partial, or total) suspensions of work, all of which result in delays beyond the timelines proposed by the contractor.

In all such cases, it is essential to provide a detailed account of the causes behind the delays, as well as to thoroughly justify and clearly substantiate the amounts corresponding to the cost of overruns incurred due to the extended execution period.
